See I Make All Things New

Chastity Curriculum for Grades 7 (8th Grade Welcome)

The Arch Diocese of Boston has asked that all of its religious education programs include the See I Make All Things New program as a part of the curriculum. This is an exciting and very fun curriculum designed with the help of many youth ministers and other professionals. This four hour course, broken up into two sessions (4-6PM on subsequent Wednesday afternoons in the Spring) that are jam packed with games, activities, multimedia presentations, and more. This program was hit among all the students who have attended. This program is based on the teachings of Pope John Paul II; his Theology of the Body. This helps all people understand that human sexuality is precious and a good thing, but it also teaches that this good thing has its place. Some of the principles and activities are mentioned below to give you an idea of how the program works.

  • Rules are Good - Students create and play a game based on provided materials. We then discuss how rules help us to enjoy things more, they will come to understand the rules of chastity as a postive.
  • Sex is bonding - Students attempt to pull apart two pieces of duct tape that are pressed together. Then students place duct tape on their arms a few times to represent bonding that takes place outside of marriage. When two pieces of duct tape are pressed together after being on an arm, they are much more easily pulled apart.
  • How far is too far - Students compete by pushing a cup of water closer and closer to the edge of the table in an attempt to see how far they can go. Eventually the cup tips and their is a mess that requires a lot of attention and work to clean and repair.
  • There are several movie clips of Jason Everett, the premier teen chastity speaker explaining principles directed to middle school student's age and maturity level.
  • The program ends with a commitment ceremony that involves a short prayer that we invite all parents to attend.
